Leaf Industries, Inc. is contracted to manufacture a product line of custom ovens for a medical laboratory customer. The customer chose us for our single source capability and precise fabrication, which are standard requirements for medical equipment. The fabrication is a combination of cold rolled steel as well as 403 and 304 stainless steel with material thicknesses of 24GA-7GA. Using customer supplied drawings the parts were manufactured to produce a final unit with dimensions of 43" in width, 51" in height and 27” in depth, while maintaining tolerances of ± 0.010". Leaf also provides regional supplies as a manufacturing cost savings.

The parts were fabricated using processes such as shearing, turret punching, laser cutting and press brake forming followed by welding parts together to create the base unit. Corners were then ground and hardware inserted and attached with door seals inserted, with other parts such as motors, coils, insulation, and wiring to complete the assembly. Finally, the cold rolled steel was powder coated and stainless steel areas were polished to a mirror finish.

The final units were inspected by the Leaf Industries Quality Control Department using both visual and dimensional inspections to ensure each unit met the customer’s specifications. Deliveries were made on a schedule defined by the customer using the Kanban system to control the logistical chain, and supplied to customers on a JIT basis. The units were then shipped to Lakeville, MN on a customized Pallet with fabricated brackets developed by Leaf.
